Handle every stressful situation like a dog............If you can't eat it or hump it........... Piss on it and walk away.

A variety of  news reports continually have "bad pit bulls" hitting the headlines. Each of these reports have at least 2 common denominators: 1.  It could have been prevented. 2.  It was never the dogs fault.

A common news scenario is people letting dogs run loose "go out and  make some friends!" - or the dog has no training and just slips out every time the door gets opened.
There's the even more sad scenario when a dog is stuck to a chain out back and develops no socialization skills. Pit bulls are intelligent animals, they are strong animals and most importantly they are SOCIAL animals - or at least meant to be. The American Pit Bull Terrier generally loves people, it's other animals that may or may not take some work due to their nature. If your pit bull is people aggressive you are not doing something right and need to seek help with your dog before he makes headlines.
When these dogs have no socialization, or little interaction with their people, they get bored from being tied up day after day and pretty soon will figure out how to get loose - and who can blame them???

Others to fault? - breeders that hand their dogs out to anyone. Some people just have no business with a dog, they aren't self-sufficient and can't take care of themselves but due to tax time, etc., etc. - they have a few extra dollars and are high rollers for about 10 minutes - "I want a pit bull". Generally breeders don't check to see if a landlord accepts pit bulls and most landlords don't. Somehow they always find out about a tenant getting a dog - especially a pit bull. The dog owners are then given an ultimatum - "get rid of the dog, or get out yourself." Rather than face eviction, they try to get rid of the dog but in the event they can't, this poor dog is let loose on a roadside - "someone will want this great dog" - but no, a lot of great dogs are put down every 8 seconds because someone else thought the same thing.

A lot of dogs aren't socialized properly to know how to act in the above situations, when they come across people and/or animals and something bad generally happens with these loose dogs which makes the headlines. After that, BSL (Breed Specific Legislation) once again becomes talk of the town. Maybe it didn't pass the last time a pit bull got loose - but this time the city has had enough and now NO ONE can have pit bulls.
This happens time and time again and could be easily prevented by responsible owners and breeders that use discretion on who gets their dogs.
